Warm-up
Inbox providers distrust an unknown domain that suddenly sends thousands of emails. A new domain has to build a history, starting small and growing as recipients open and don't complain.
Every newly verified domain follows a ramp of daily limits on marketing emails, and moves up one stage each day it sends.
The ramp
| Stage | Marketing emails per day |
|---|---|
| 0 | 1,050 |
| 1 | 2,100 |
| 2 | 4,200 |
| 3 | 8,400 |
| 4 | 16,800 |
| 5 | 33,600 |
| 6 | 67,200 |
| 7 | 100,000 |
| 8 | 150,000 |
- A domain starts at stage 0 when it's verified.
- It moves up one stage on its first send of each new day (days are counted in UTC). A domain that sends nothing doesn't warm up: the ramp counts sending days, not calendar days.
- It doesn't move up while your reputation needs attention. The ramp resumes once complaints and bounces are back below the thresholds.
- Stage 8 is a plateau. If you regularly need more than 150,000 marketing emails a day from one domain, contact support.
Schedule your big send on day one
You don't need to wait for the ramp. Send a campaign to 10,000 contacts on the day your domain is verified: Kula sends what the day allows and queues the rest. Leftover emails leave first the next day, as the limit rises.
| Day | Daily limit | Sent | Still queued |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1,050 | 1,050 | 8,950 |
| 2 | 2,100 | 2,100 | 6,850 |
| 3 | 4,200 | 4,200 | 2,650 |
| 4 | 8,400 | 2,650 | 0 |
Nothing needs to be rescheduled. The campaign report shows emails as queued until they leave.
What the ramp doesn't hold back
- Transactional emails never wait for the ramp: a password reset leaves right away. They don't use up the day's limit either.
- Test emails go out right away.
The ramp is per domain. A space with two verified domains has two ramps, each with its own history.
Your own daily limit
On top of the ramp, you can set a Daily marketing limit in Settings › General: a cap on campaign and flow emails per day for the whole space. Leave it empty for no limit.
Where to follow it
The Sending ramp panel of the Deliverability page shows each domain's stage and how many emails it has sent today out of its limit. The domain card in Settings › Domains shows it too.
