Account review

Why Kula reviews each new account before its first campaign, and what it asks

Every Kula account sends from the same email infrastructure. Inbox providers and our email provider judge that infrastructure as a whole: a few accounts sending spam would hurt the delivery of every customer. So each new account is reviewed once, before its first campaign.

What works before the review

You can set everything up and start sending right away:

  • domains, contacts, lists, signup forms, campaigns and flows;
  • transactional emails, within the quota of your plan;
  • test emails and double opt-in confirmations;
  • flows, within a small daily volume. The rest waits in the queue and leaves once the account is approved.

Only campaigns wait: scheduling one asks for the review. The campaign stays a draft until then.

What we ask

The questionnaire is in Settings > Account review, or opens from the Schedule button. The owner or an admin of the account answers it:

  • your website;
  • how your contacts signed up: a form on your site, a purchase or an account on your product, an import from another tool;
  • what you send, and roughly how many emails a month;
  • optionally, an example email or some context;
  • a commitment that every contact agreed to receive your emails, and that you don't send to purchased or scraped lists.

We also look at what's already in the account, such as your sending domains and your contacts.

How long it takes

Usually a few hours. The owners and admins get an email with the decision.

  • Approved: every space of the account, present and future, sends campaigns. Flow emails waiting in the queue leave on their own.
  • Not approved: the email gives the reason. Answer the questionnaire again with more details.

The review happens once per account. After it, your warm-up, contacts under review and reputation keep protecting your deliverability.
